Office Remodel Updates and To Do list

Woohoo! Happy Friday friends! Another work week conquered! I actually have some work to catch up on this weekend, so unfortunately I can't celebrate yet. Waaaaah. But I realized that I haven't posted any updates on how my office remodel is going along. As I've mentioned before, it's been a crazy year, and past couple of months especially, so this has taken way longer to finish than I anticipated. I'm actually kind of enjoying the slow process though and making sure that I love every item that I bring into my space.

I didn't really decorate for halloween, but I did add a few autumnal touches with pumpkins. I don't think I've ever mentioned this, but I REALLY love pumpkins.

I wish I had taken a before photo to show you how far this room has come. The walls were originally an awful pink color and the floors were covered in burgundy carpet. It was a disaster. I chose classic white walls to keep my shelf wall that I envisioned from looking too cluttered and to make the room brighter. I am not a morning person, but having lots of natural light in a room helps wonders on those groggy mornings.

I decided on faux wood flooring because I hate carpet and didn't want to invest too much money into the room since I don't know how long I will have this space. It was a big time money saver, and I'm so glad I went this route.

The art pieces were done by me and were so relaxing to make that I think everybody will be getting some for Christmas from me. Even the boyfriend kept remarking as I was making them that he wanted to try one out himself.

I designed this room around two objects, one of which is this overdyed pink rug. I was dying to have a space where I could incorporate it, but most of m other decor is more muted greys and whites. I like to have pops of color in my office, however, because they draw so much creativity out of me and keep me excited. The items that originally inspired me and where I drew my color palette from, though, are a couple of agate slices in rich jewel tones. We had just gone on a wonderful vacation to gold country here in California and visited several caves where I picked up several of those agate slices and from there my vision began.

There are still several things to complete before I can call this room finished, however. Between the two shelves is going to be a small console desk that still needs to be built. We will also be adding trim to the shelves to give them a built in look. Again, I went the more cost efficient route with those instead of having the builtins I have been coveting since I won't be able to take them with me and I don't really regret it. I think they're gonna look pretty great once we're done with them!

An office chair or a DIY on my current one is also on my list to do. I had a furry white one picked out, but I hated it in this space so I'm giving myself time to decide on an alternative.

I have a bar cart on the wall to the right that is looking pretty sad and empty at the moment and is in desperate need of some styling. And my shelves are still awaiting the perfect pieces to fill in the gaps, but other than those little details there isn't much left to finish

Trendy Tuesdays: Velvet

Happy Tuesday Ladies! It sure felt more like a Monday getting up this morning due in part to the cooler temps making it harder to get out of bed in the mornings and partly for the fact that I've finally gotten back into running and my body sure is feeling it today. Between my lingering cough and bad knee I almost didn't go for a run last night, but I toughed it out and my cough wasn't as bad as I had expected it to be so it looks like I can get back to easing my knee into it after all. Yay!

And since it's Tuesday I'm continuing on with my Trendy Tuesday series and today we're covering velvet! Velvet has made a comeback and I feel much like I feel about the chenille trend about it. I love it! In moderation of course. I TRY to stick to one trend at a time to not look like a complete disaster, but occasionally that rule can be broken.

AND I especially love the velvet trend when it comes to home decor. I am DYING for a velvet duvet cover. I can imagine many cozy nights (and Tuesday mornings that feel like Mondays) under a warm velvet duvet.

I love the look of velvet in deep jewel tones and grays. Nothing screams cozy to me as much as gray velvet. Check out below what my recent favorite velvet finds are and help me on my quest for the perfect velvet duvet for the season!

Fabulous Friday Lust List and Fall Season Goals

Happy Friday friends! We made it through another week! At the beginning of every season I like to set some goals for myself  and since it finally feels like fall I felt like this was the perfect time to set mine for the season. I have a whole bunch already jotted down for business goals, but I wanted to share a couple of personal ones with you today and encourage you to set some for yourself as well.

I've never been a big believer in setting New Years Resolutions because I feel you are more likely to accomplish a goal when you feel strongly about it rather than picking just some specific day to start. So setting goals is a regular thing that I do to keep on top of what I want to achieve both professionally and personally. Whether it be April or a Tuesday, when I have a goal I start it then and there. But then I also like to take some time every season to reflect and find places where I can improve and then I work on that for the next few months. I find that it feels much more attainable than setting one huge goal and spending the entire year trying to stick to it because lets face it, nobody does. Seasonal goals are my baby steps.

So here's what I'm working on this season

I work from home and love to be in comfort so workout clothes and leggings are pretty much an everyday staple and I LOVE this, but there is also something great about actually putting on a pair of jeans and putting a little extra effort into my hair instead of the usual pass with a straightener or quick curl so I'm going to aim for at least 3 full hair-makeup-outfit days a week. It makes me feel good to put effort into myself, but I also enjoy comfort so I'm meeting myself halfway on this one.

Healthy eating. Not that I've been eating badly, but I have lost my love of a good ol salad and that's my fault for losing interest. I strongly believe loving healthy foods is a frame of mind and lately I haven't had it. With everything going on I've been needing comfort wherever I can get it and I have used food as an excuse to receive it. "Oh it's ok if I have pie because I had a bad day" has become a part of my life too much lately and I want to go back to that being a treat rather than a comfort.

Running. I used to love running. But when I moved to a town with awful air quality my long outdoor runs became short ones and then eventually I started having knee problems and then I just used them as excuses to give it up. I am not a lover of the treadmill and enjoy running among the trees so I am going to find a way to make my runs a regular thing again. Even if it means short 2 mile runs with a knee brace.

But in the mean time here's the items in my shopping carts that are giving me all the heart eyes this week. I'm in need of a versatile fall bag and have my eyes on these Tory Burch options, but I can't decide if I want a large tote or a crossbody since I have gotten quite used to the smaller size. Thoughts?

October Horror Movie Must Watch List

Happy Wednesday friends! We're halfway through the month and almost to Halloween! Can you believe it? As I mentioned before, I spent most of the first half of the month being sick and as a result being a couch potato which only means one thing. Well it means a lot of things, but the most exciting is that I've been getting in as many horror movies as possible. I'm a huge horror movie lover which is just another reason why I love this time of year.

Since I've been able to have so much screen time this fall I decided I should share my own personal Halloween Horror Movie Must Watch list. These are not necessarily the best horror movies out there, but they are my favorites to watch over and over.

But don't forget to also watch The Nightmare Before Christmas. It may not technically be a horror movie, which is why I didn't add it to the list, but I never skip a fall season without watching it once (ok, maybe more like 3-4 times)

So feel free to save my list and have yourself your own Horror movie fest this season and let me know which are your favorites!

The Exorcist is hands down my all time favorite horror movie and the first one I fell in love with. Creepy head turning, disgusting vomit, and horrifying voices, what's not to love? I can watch it a hundred times (and probably have) and still enjoy it as much as the first time.

Insidious | Insidious 2 | Insidious 3 I love this trilogy so much. It's creepy and hits me with a bunch of jump scares. I am not at all a jumpy person so this is saying something. Each one is great so I recommend all 3.

The Shining A classic that I couldn't leave off the list because it's always fun to watch. Redrum. The end.

The Orphanage  This is one a lot of people skip over because it is in Spanish which means the dreaded subtitles. The Orphanage is by Guillermo Del Torro,  the same director of Pans Labyrinth, and is every bit as perfect. This movie is creepy and worth the added effort of subtitles. If you enjoy it you should also check out his other work in The Devil's Backbone which is another fantastic horror flick.

Babadook I had to add this one solely for the fact that it is so memorable. Invite your friends over to watch this and then scare them with Baaaabaaaadoooook voice messages for the next week. You're welcome.

Ok, it's not real. And it isn't even the most believable, but this movie takes you on such an emotional rollercoaster and can freak out even the toughest of people and deserves a spot on this list and any horror movie marathon.

The Conjuring | The Conjuring 2 These are both also favorites of mine. Vera Farmiga as Lorraine Warren is perfection. This movie is full of scares and creepy moments that keep you on the edge of your seat.

The Sixth Sense while definitely not the scariest on the list it is one of the most entertaining. The Sixth Sense is another creepy one that I can watch over and over and still enjoy.

The Ring Again, I just couldn't leave this off. I skip the sequels and stick to just the first one for scare after scare. If you're into this one then be sure to check out The Grudge too

Shutter I wish this one had better reviews because I for one love it. It's suspenseful and creepy and almost as good as the original Thai version that it was adapted from

The Omen This is the remake of the 1976 version and maintains the dignity of the original while adding a stronger creepy factor that I am all for!
