Last Minute Gifts to Pick Up at Target and a New GiftNow Feature

Happy Thursday ladies! I've been hit with another pesky cold so I've been struggling this week. But I've managed to do a lot of online shopping and I'm nearly finished with my whole Christmas shopping list, so cheers to that! I didn't make any gift guides this year because there are SO many out there and they are really great, so I didn't feel like it was necessary to add one more, but then it hit me. Not everybody is shopping online and in a timely manner. A LOT of people procrastinate and then run into Target to grab something in a rush. So I put together a list of some great gift ideas for the woman in your life that you put off shopping for.

This is even more convenient since you can order online and then just pick it up in store OR you can try the new feature that Target released yesterday that allows you to purchase and item and use their GiftNow option that allows you to purchase the item for somebody and they will receive an email with the item. They can then change the size and click order OR they can pick a completely different item that suits their style better. This is great for somebody who lives far away, but you still want to get them something that they will like. This option is right by the shipping options on the product page.

No matter what style the woman you're buying for is into, I'm sure you're bound to find something on this list!

December Winter Reading List

Christmas Glitter
So cheesy and cute! I love these easy read Christmas stories. After recovering from an accident and going through a bad breakup, jewelry designer Dakota Moore is ready for a fresh start and Cherry Lake seems like just the place. An upcoming fundraising opportunity seems like the perfect way for her to get acquainted with all her new neighbors and try her hand at a new venture for her business, but finding love again was never something that she imagined she'd end up finding. This is a sweet romance that proves that love appears when you stop looking for it.

Their Christmas Miracle
Do you love Hallmark Christmas movies as much as I do? Then you will LOVE this charming story about how tragic circumstances can bring two unsuspecting people together. Tracy has just purchased her dream cabin and is happy with her quiet life working at the hospital and making pies on the side to supplement her income and her love of baking. Hunter is enjoying watching his young restaurant thrive after a shaky past and doesn't take a single day for granted. He has been letting Tracy use his kitchen to bake her pies, but because of their conflicting schedules they rarely cross paths. Until a tragic accident disrupts their quiet lives and Hunter must learn how to deal with his new version of normal life. This beautiful story of selflessness and love is exactly what you need this holiday season!

A Little Magic and a Life Update

Happy Tuesday ladies! If you followed my Instagram stories this past weekend then you got to see some little Disneyland tidbits from our trip. We had a wonderful and magical time with my family even though the crowds were a little crazy, but I'll share a little more about that in a bit.

So where have I been? I mentioned a few times that my father was ill and was in in-home hospice care. Caring for him became a full time job so other things like Instagram and this blog just kind of got put off. Just when I was getting the hang of things we lost him.

I kept busy taking care of everything with the funeral, took care of my mom, and in my culture it is customary to have a rosary every night for nine nights after a death so we had between 30-40 people every night to host and it all kept me sane. Well, sane and insane at the same time if it makes any sense. I find comfort in staying busy and taking the lead so while it was incredibly stressful, it helped me more that I thought. It took a bit to find my footing again, but I'm getting there.

The timeline of everything is something that is just so bizarre. My dad was released into hospice care the day before my mom's birthday and then he passed a couple of days before mine. And since we didn't really get to celebrate either one properly, we decided to take a trip to Disneyland to celebrate and to honor the memories we have of my dad on our yearly Disney trips.

It was wonderful to see my mom happy and smiling after such a difficult time. My parents were married for 48 years so it's difficult to imagine just what she is feeling, but it's nice to see her trying to live her life and keep his memory alive.

Would you believe I had never visited Disneyland during the holiday season? It was SO BEAUTIFUL! I hate that I waited so long to experience it. I am a fellow Christmas light lover so it was especially magical for me. It was also my first time getting to see the Fantasmic show and WHOA, let me tell you, that show is amazing. We stood in front of the Haunted Mansion, but still had a great view and highly recommend that area if you don't feel like being squished like a sardine in the center.

I have a newfound respect for everybody who works in hospice. Bless you. What you do is incredible and you can't even begin to imagine just how much you are helping these families. I know it gets hard, but you are making such a difference. Thank you.

November Reading List

Hey lovely ladies!  I'm sorry to be bringing you this months reading picks so late and for the fact that there are only 3 instead of the usual 4 books to add to your reading list. Things have been very crazy around here hence my absence. These are my favorite new releases I think you all would enjoy!

Mining For Justice
I enjoyed this book by Kathleen Ernst so much! It satisfied my cravings of both historical locations and light mystery. Not only does Kathleen do a fantastic job creating a narrative that sets you right in the Wisconsin Pendarvis location, but she created entertaining webs of of mystery that leave you endlessly trying to connect the dots.

When two teenage girls head to London on the train for the weekend nobody expects that everything would change. They were supposed to be enjoying one of their first tastes of freedom. They were supposed to be having innocent conversations with young boys they met on the train. They were supposed to go to the theater. But nothing happened as it was supposed to. When a woman who watched the young girls on the train comes forward with information her life is also changed. While she wrestles with her conscience for not trusting her gut, she never imagines her struggle is just beginning. This one event turned so many innocent lives around, but all they want is answers. Lies are discovered and pieces begin to get put together, but the truth was something nobody expected.

I am watching you is a refreshing mystery that is anything but predictable. It managed to creep me out and left me looking over my shoulder more than ever before. Lock your doors before you dive into this one!

Phyrne goes on holiday to Australia with her companions in this installment of Miss Fisher’s Murder Mysteries. Set in the 1920s, the group have planned to stay the summer in a home rented from an acquaintance and are eager to settle in and hit the beach, but another mystery awaits them in the home. The housekeepers who are supposed to be there to greet them are nowhere to be found. The mystery only gets stranger when they find that every single item from the pantry is missing as well. The sugar, tea, flour all missing. Nothing left behind. The police seem to brush it off and expect they did a runner, but when a few days later the couple’s beloved dog shows up on the doorstep covered in filth Phyrne decides that she must find them on her own. Something clearly is not right and she and her companions will get to the bottom of it.

This energetic mystery was a fun read, although I will say that at times I felt like the uninvited guest at the party who had no idea what was going on. If you can get through the unnecessary pages with the surrealist group and the sometimes too accurate to the times and place language then you will enjoy this light read.

Office Remodel Updates and To Do list

Woohoo! Happy Friday friends! Another work week conquered! I actually have some work to catch up on this weekend, so unfortunately I can't celebrate yet. Waaaaah. But I realized that I haven't posted any updates on how my office remodel is going along. As I've mentioned before, it's been a crazy year, and past couple of months especially, so this has taken way longer to finish than I anticipated. I'm actually kind of enjoying the slow process though and making sure that I love every item that I bring into my space.

I didn't really decorate for halloween, but I did add a few autumnal touches with pumpkins. I don't think I've ever mentioned this, but I REALLY love pumpkins.

I wish I had taken a before photo to show you how far this room has come. The walls were originally an awful pink color and the floors were covered in burgundy carpet. It was a disaster. I chose classic white walls to keep my shelf wall that I envisioned from looking too cluttered and to make the room brighter. I am not a morning person, but having lots of natural light in a room helps wonders on those groggy mornings.

I decided on faux wood flooring because I hate carpet and didn't want to invest too much money into the room since I don't know how long I will have this space. It was a big time money saver, and I'm so glad I went this route.

The art pieces were done by me and were so relaxing to make that I think everybody will be getting some for Christmas from me. Even the boyfriend kept remarking as I was making them that he wanted to try one out himself.

I designed this room around two objects, one of which is this overdyed pink rug. I was dying to have a space where I could incorporate it, but most of m other decor is more muted greys and whites. I like to have pops of color in my office, however, because they draw so much creativity out of me and keep me excited. The items that originally inspired me and where I drew my color palette from, though, are a couple of agate slices in rich jewel tones. We had just gone on a wonderful vacation to gold country here in California and visited several caves where I picked up several of those agate slices and from there my vision began.

There are still several things to complete before I can call this room finished, however. Between the two shelves is going to be a small console desk that still needs to be built. We will also be adding trim to the shelves to give them a built in look. Again, I went the more cost efficient route with those instead of having the builtins I have been coveting since I won't be able to take them with me and I don't really regret it. I think they're gonna look pretty great once we're done with them!

An office chair or a DIY on my current one is also on my list to do. I had a furry white one picked out, but I hated it in this space so I'm giving myself time to decide on an alternative.

I have a bar cart on the wall to the right that is looking pretty sad and empty at the moment and is in desperate need of some styling. And my shelves are still awaiting the perfect pieces to fill in the gaps, but other than those little details there isn't much left to finish

Trendy Tuesdays: Velvet

Happy Tuesday Ladies! It sure felt more like a Monday getting up this morning due in part to the cooler temps making it harder to get out of bed in the mornings and partly for the fact that I've finally gotten back into running and my body sure is feeling it today. Between my lingering cough and bad knee I almost didn't go for a run last night, but I toughed it out and my cough wasn't as bad as I had expected it to be so it looks like I can get back to easing my knee into it after all. Yay!

And since it's Tuesday I'm continuing on with my Trendy Tuesday series and today we're covering velvet! Velvet has made a comeback and I feel much like I feel about the chenille trend about it. I love it! In moderation of course. I TRY to stick to one trend at a time to not look like a complete disaster, but occasionally that rule can be broken.

AND I especially love the velvet trend when it comes to home decor. I am DYING for a velvet duvet cover. I can imagine many cozy nights (and Tuesday mornings that feel like Mondays) under a warm velvet duvet.

I love the look of velvet in deep jewel tones and grays. Nothing screams cozy to me as much as gray velvet. Check out below what my recent favorite velvet finds are and help me on my quest for the perfect velvet duvet for the season!

Fabulous Friday Lust List and Fall Season Goals

Happy Friday friends! We made it through another week! At the beginning of every season I like to set some goals for myself  and since it finally feels like fall I felt like this was the perfect time to set mine for the season. I have a whole bunch already jotted down for business goals, but I wanted to share a couple of personal ones with you today and encourage you to set some for yourself as well.

I've never been a big believer in setting New Years Resolutions because I feel you are more likely to accomplish a goal when you feel strongly about it rather than picking just some specific day to start. So setting goals is a regular thing that I do to keep on top of what I want to achieve both professionally and personally. Whether it be April or a Tuesday, when I have a goal I start it then and there. But then I also like to take some time every season to reflect and find places where I can improve and then I work on that for the next few months. I find that it feels much more attainable than setting one huge goal and spending the entire year trying to stick to it because lets face it, nobody does. Seasonal goals are my baby steps.

So here's what I'm working on this season

I work from home and love to be in comfort so workout clothes and leggings are pretty much an everyday staple and I LOVE this, but there is also something great about actually putting on a pair of jeans and putting a little extra effort into my hair instead of the usual pass with a straightener or quick curl so I'm going to aim for at least 3 full hair-makeup-outfit days a week. It makes me feel good to put effort into myself, but I also enjoy comfort so I'm meeting myself halfway on this one.

Healthy eating. Not that I've been eating badly, but I have lost my love of a good ol salad and that's my fault for losing interest. I strongly believe loving healthy foods is a frame of mind and lately I haven't had it. With everything going on I've been needing comfort wherever I can get it and I have used food as an excuse to receive it. "Oh it's ok if I have pie because I had a bad day" has become a part of my life too much lately and I want to go back to that being a treat rather than a comfort.

Running. I used to love running. But when I moved to a town with awful air quality my long outdoor runs became short ones and then eventually I started having knee problems and then I just used them as excuses to give it up. I am not a lover of the treadmill and enjoy running among the trees so I am going to find a way to make my runs a regular thing again. Even if it means short 2 mile runs with a knee brace.

But in the mean time here's the items in my shopping carts that are giving me all the heart eyes this week. I'm in need of a versatile fall bag and have my eyes on these Tory Burch options, but I can't decide if I want a large tote or a crossbody since I have gotten quite used to the smaller size. Thoughts?

October Horror Movie Must Watch List

Happy Wednesday friends! We're halfway through the month and almost to Halloween! Can you believe it? As I mentioned before, I spent most of the first half of the month being sick and as a result being a couch potato which only means one thing. Well it means a lot of things, but the most exciting is that I've been getting in as many horror movies as possible. I'm a huge horror movie lover which is just another reason why I love this time of year.

Since I've been able to have so much screen time this fall I decided I should share my own personal Halloween Horror Movie Must Watch list. These are not necessarily the best horror movies out there, but they are my favorites to watch over and over.

But don't forget to also watch The Nightmare Before Christmas. It may not technically be a horror movie, which is why I didn't add it to the list, but I never skip a fall season without watching it once (ok, maybe more like 3-4 times)

So feel free to save my list and have yourself your own Horror movie fest this season and let me know which are your favorites!

The Exorcist is hands down my all time favorite horror movie and the first one I fell in love with. Creepy head turning, disgusting vomit, and horrifying voices, what's not to love? I can watch it a hundred times (and probably have) and still enjoy it as much as the first time.

Insidious | Insidious 2 | Insidious 3 I love this trilogy so much. It's creepy and hits me with a bunch of jump scares. I am not at all a jumpy person so this is saying something. Each one is great so I recommend all 3.

The Shining A classic that I couldn't leave off the list because it's always fun to watch. Redrum. The end.

The Orphanage  This is one a lot of people skip over because it is in Spanish which means the dreaded subtitles. The Orphanage is by Guillermo Del Torro,  the same director of Pans Labyrinth, and is every bit as perfect. This movie is creepy and worth the added effort of subtitles. If you enjoy it you should also check out his other work in The Devil's Backbone which is another fantastic horror flick.

Babadook I had to add this one solely for the fact that it is so memorable. Invite your friends over to watch this and then scare them with Baaaabaaaadoooook voice messages for the next week. You're welcome.

Ok, it's not real. And it isn't even the most believable, but this movie takes you on such an emotional rollercoaster and can freak out even the toughest of people and deserves a spot on this list and any horror movie marathon.

The Conjuring | The Conjuring 2 These are both also favorites of mine. Vera Farmiga as Lorraine Warren is perfection. This movie is full of scares and creepy moments that keep you on the edge of your seat.

The Sixth Sense while definitely not the scariest on the list it is one of the most entertaining. The Sixth Sense is another creepy one that I can watch over and over and still enjoy.

The Ring Again, I just couldn't leave this off. I skip the sequels and stick to just the first one for scare after scare. If you're into this one then be sure to check out The Grudge too

Shutter I wish this one had better reviews because I for one love it. It's suspenseful and creepy and almost as good as the original Thai version that it was adapted from

The Omen This is the remake of the 1976 version and maintains the dignity of the original while adding a stronger creepy factor that I am all for!
