Navigating the 2018 Nordstrom Sale!

Happy first official day of the Nordstrom Sale! If you're a cardholder then you've already been shopping the sale, but for those of us who are weary of credit cards or for whatever reason don't have a Nordstrom Credit card then it's our first day to shop the sale!

So let me start by saying that this sale is OVERWHELMING! I get excited to be able to get deals of clothing items for the upcoming fall season, but there are SO MANY great deals that sometimes I don't know in which direction to go. So this year I set a budget and then created categories. This makes it easier for me to pick items from whichever categories are most important to me and which deals I think are worth it.

My categories are basics, shoes, intimates, athletic, accessories, investment pieces and beauty. I love getting good deals on workout gear during the sale and saving money on my favorite beauty products in the great sets that they have during the sale so that's where I'm starting today. Tomorrow I'll pick out a couple investment pieces which I think are one of the best things to pick up during the sale. These are pieces that you'll keep in your closet for many years to come so they are worth spending a little bit more money on. Then comes the basics category. This is my favorite to shop because these are pieces I will wear all the time so I try to stick to less trendy pieces. This girl loves her basics! Finally I'll move on to the remaining categories and pick out whatever else I feel I'll need.

Anyway, below is my list of everything I love from the sale and what I'll be weeding through to pick out my final purchases. I find narrowing it down like this helps me make the smartest decisions and keeps me from overspending or making impulse decision that I regret later. I hope it helps you and you take advantage of the sale!

And don't forget that Nordstrom is constantly restocking during the sale so if any item sells out keep checking back!

A Dress Fit for a Princess and my Favorite Solvang Spots!

Happy Wednesday Ladies! Have you been taking advantage of all the great sales going on right now? Have you shopped the Nordstrom Early Access yet or are you waiting for general access like me? I love Nordstrom and the yearly sale, but I try to stay away from credit cards with high interest so as tempting as it is I'm having to wait. I actually read a post about the sale by Courtney Kerr that really resonated with me and put into words how I felt about it much better than I could. Heeeeeey girl! The sale will still be there till August 5th so don't go into debt for it!

Anyway, today I'm sharing with you a gorgeous dress that I wore to Solvang for my hunny's birthday celebrations. I ordered this off of Amazon when we decided on the last minute trip since it was Prime Eligible and was basically the only way I was going to arrive on time and let me tell you how impressed I am with the fabric! It has a shorter slip attached so it isn't as see-through as I worried it would be. You will still have to wear nude undergarments, but you can't see them through the lining at all! It looks great buttoned up all the way or how I styled it here with some unbuttoned at the bottom for a cute slit effect. You will surely feel like a princess when the wind sweeps up the ends of the dress if you choose to leave the bottom unbuttoned! Oh and did I mention its under $35? Score!

I paired mine with comfy wedges since we would be doing a lot of walking and finished it with a lightweight nude bag.

Solvang is the cutest little Danish town located on the central California coast between Santa Barbara and Pismo and it is one of my favorite quick trips to take during the summer months when I need to escape the heat. My hunny and I have been coming every summer since we started dating 6 years ago. I thought it would be fun to share my favorite places to eat and a couple of my favorite things to see!

- Solvang -

My Favorite Spots

Eat:
Paula's Pancake House
There is also a huge line for Paula's for breakfast and brunch so if you don't mind the wait then this is definitely one you should try. They have a delicious smoked salmon eggs benedict that I crave all the time and is the main reason I will stand in line for an hour!

Fitspatrick's Tavern
This Irish Tavern is also a great place to grab a drink. The patio area is the perfect relaxing place to breakaway from all the tourists. Located across from the park, it's also a great spot to catch musical entertainment performing in the lawn or stage area. I enjoy the Shepherds Pie and the Dubliner Burger which is amazing. And the service is always fantastic!

Copenhagen Sausage Garden
This place is so fun! It's an outdoor patio area for sausage and beer lovers. Grab a huge mug of European draft beer and a charcuterie board or sausages and hit up the dipping sauce bar for TONS of different flavors.

Solvang Trolley Ice Cream
I had the best Ice Cream I've ever had here. Well, seeing as how I'm lactose intolerant, I just tried it and had a delicious lemonade instead. But that one taste was magical! If they happen to have it the day you visit, try the lemon marionberry. It will change your life!

Mortensens Bakery
I never leave Solvang without a stop at Mortensens. There are so many wonderful pastries to pick from. of course you have to try the danishes, but don't forget to grab a delicious pistachio bar!

To See:

Aside from the typical Solvang tourist areas like the Hans Anderson Museum and wonderful little shops, there are some hidden gems in the area.

Ostrichland
Just down the street is Ostrichland where you and your family can feed and mingle with tons of ostrich friends and emus. This is an unexpected treat that is sure to be fun for all ages. Don't forget to check out the gift shop for unique gifts!

Flower Fields
There are so many gorgeous flower fields in the area. Stop for some quick family pictures, but dont disturb the flowers! They are on private property so always try to remain respectful.

La Purisima Mission
Less than 15 minutes away is the La Purisima Mission in Lompoc. With history dating back to 1787, this is a must stop especially for history buffs like me. Self guided tours are always welcome for those who are in a rush!

July New Book Releases Summer books

Happy July friends! I hope you're all surviving this summer heat! If you're in 100 degree heat like me then I hope that you've gotten to escape to the beach to keep from melting! I've had some time to do some reading recently and I have some REALLY good ones to share with you. I honestly have been dying to share these!

Out July 24
Girls Night Out: What my nightmares are made of. Seriously, this book will keep you from ever drinking too much or touching anything that might possible lead to a blackout. What's scarier than waking up on the beach in Mexico with no memory of what happened the night before? Waking up on the beach in Mexico with no memory and NOT BEING ABLE TO LOCATE YOUR BEST FRIEND.

This book by Liz Fenton had me on the edge of my seat the entire way through. I do have a couple of complaints, however. I feel like this book could have been about 100 pages shorter. I feel like there were a lot of repetitive moments and there were a few situations that dragged on without much purpose that could have definitely been cut down. And secondly, holy teenage drama. There are A LOT of immature arguments that were difficult to get through. There's something very irritating about reading page after page of 40 year old women acting like a bunch of 14 year olds. BUT if you can get through those couple of flaws then you are sure to enjoy this whodunnit mystery. It's sure to be one of the best of the summer!

This is the third novel that I've read by B.A Paris and it's sure to not be the last! What I love about Paris is her ability to draw out suspense throughout an entire book without making it frustrating or boring. She did that in Behind Closed Doors, she did that in The Breakdown and she's done it again in Bring Me Back. The story is about a missing woman and the young man who was madly in love with her and jumps between then and the present. It's 12 years later and he has moved on and is now engaged to her sister. Life is going well until events arise that make him believe that his missing girlfriend may be alive and may have returned.

For a while I actually had no idea where this book was headed, which is a good thing. It's refreshing to read a book that isn't predictable, but it also means that I basically can't put the book down and you won't be able to reach me until I finish.

But holy paranoia! Bring Me Back left me not know what to believe at the end of every chapter. I was certain I had figured it out about 12 separate times and I was wrong every time.

Bravo to Paris for such a unique read

She Was the Quiet One -Michelle Campbell
Out July 31
I was so drawn into this story that I read it in two sittings! Have you ever read a book full of so much drama that you're happy that your life is completely boring and the biggest enemy you have is the girl at Lowes who gives you dirty looks? That's how this book made me feel. But holy amazeballs, it makes for great entertainment.
She Was the Quiet one is centered around a tangled web of secrets and deceit between two recently orphaned teenage twins and a gaggle of students and faculty at their prestigious boarding school. Complete opposites in every sense, Bel and  Rose arrive at their new school unaware of how much their world is about to change. Between navigating through the loss of their mother and finding their place in their new school, a rivalry arises that takes their situation from bad to worse and somehow ends in murder. But of who? And by whom?
This is far from your usual whodunnit mystery. For the majority of the novel the victim isn't revealed so you're left trying to answer not one, but two questions throughout it's entirety. Oh man is that fun! I went through dozens of different scenarios and possibilities before it became clear what had transpired.
