Fall Clothing Lust List

Happy first day of fall! I can definitely feel the change in the air even out here in California! So what better way to celebrate than a new autumn lust list? Here's the things I'm currently eyeing for my wardrobe this season!

Good American Jeans
Whoa that price tag. Scary! But worth it? I think so! They fit like a dream and are perfect for body types like mine that are a little curvier around the bum. I have the most difficult time finding jeans that fit right and look trendy so I think these are worth the price!

Steve Madden Bootie
Vince Camuto Karinta Bootie
The cutout bootie is in this fall! I have my eye on a few and these are perfect for the transitional weather here in California where it's still a little warm.

Suede Moto Jacket A nice jacket is always a must buy every fall. I love the moto style with shoulder details and this one is a great price!

Knit Cardigan
I've seen the beautiful Free People Saturday Morning Cardigan all over social media lately and I've been having major heart eyes, but the price makes me hesitate a bit. So I've been keeping my eyes peeled for something similar, but I haven't really found anything. So on the list it goes!

I've been living in my comfy Nike sneakers and I'm soglad that athleisure is now a thing! So I want to add a few new pairs to my collection to get me through the fall.
Nike Roshe Two

I'm really into dainty jewelry that can be layered right now. I'll be adding a few pieces to my collection this season including these Baublebar beauties
Baublebar Layered NecklaceBaublebar Celestial Earrings. And no fall wardrobe is complete without scarves! I may already have a few too many, but I can't resist some more! My favorite is this
Madewell Diamond Shape Scarf that is the perfect shape so it won't be as bulky as your everyday blanket scarf.

Meet Kitty!

I realized I hadn't done a proper blog introduction for Kitty and I feel so ashamed! She is the heart of our family and as we approach our first anniversary with her in our lives I wanted to share her story.

First and foremost we must address her name. Kitty. Not the most creative of names, but there's a reason. Kitty was never supposed to be our cat. We were never supposed to get attached.

She was a stray that showed up outside one day and was laying under a bush. Being the animal lover that I am, I walked over and tried to engage her, but she was frightened and ran off.

The next day she was under that bush again. This went on for about a week, and my heart broke for her.

I like to keep a bag of cat food to feed strays, so I filled up a bowl with food and another with water and approached her. Again, she ran off, but she looked so hungry that I left the bowls under the bush for her for if she returned.

She did return and she began living in our bush. She began to trust us and allowed us to pet her and hold her and we fell in love. She was the most affectionate cat we had ever encountered. She would run over to us and flop onto the ground so we could shower her with love. She would wait but the door in the morning, sit on the front porch all day, and she'd be sitting and ready to greet us when we got home in the driveway. She immediately had this fun personality that just clicked with us. By this point we had grown so accustomed to calling her Kitty that it just didn't feel right to change it. So she remained Kitty.

All about that healthy stuff!

Hey girls! I wanted to share with you today all of the products that I use to make sure I'm getting all the vitamins and minerals that my body needs on a weekly basis. I am lactose intolerant, gluten free, and I try to limit my soy intake so these products fit those rules for the most part. Let me make it clear that I don't use all of these every single day. I switch it up based on my needs and what I've been eating so my needs can vary from day to day and it's not necessary to use ALL of these products every single day.

First let's start with what I like to add to my protein shakes.

Maca Powder
Maca Powder is a wonderful superfood with so many health benefits that I think most men and women should be taking advantage of. It helps boost your immune system, provides energy and stamina, helps increase fertility, balances hormones, improves memory and focus. The one downside to Maca Powder is the smell. I can't stand the smell of it and it is very potent so I can only add small amounts to my protein shakes so that I can't tell it's there.

Cacao Nibs and Powder
I use a combination of Cacao Nibs and Cacao Powder interchangeably depending on what I am making with them. Cacao nibs are full of antioxidants, fiber, flavonoids, magnesium and potassium and can help improve mood and protect your heart. They are the purest form of the cacao bean so the have a strong flavor, but they are great in a protein shake or baking. I use the cacao powder for baking and making waffles, but sometimes add it to my protein shakes as well. Not only is the powder for delicious, but it has the same great benefits as the nibs.

Orgain Protein
Since I am lactose intolerant I stick to plant based proteins and my favorite is Orgain Plant Based Protein Powder in creamy chocolate. I blend it with some ice, water, a banana, small scoop of peanut butter and then add whatever superfoods I feel I need for the day. Usually I reach for a small bit of maca powder and cacao nibs, but sometimes I also add flax seed.

For my morning smoothies I like to add:

Baobab
Baobab is a fruit powder that has been used for centuries to treat a wide variety of ailments from gastrointestinal problems to vitamin C deficiency. Because of the very high content of vitamin C, baobab is wonderful for the skin, but it is also loaded with other vitamins that are also great for your heart and liver. It is also believed to help aid in weight loss because it contains vitamins that encourage your body to turn fat into fuel instead of storing it. It has a pleasant fruity taste so I like to add it to my morning smoothie. My favorite is Baobab Superfruit Powder mostly because I'm in love with the cute container, but also because it's just so darn wonderful.

Superfoods
This is a product that I don't always use because I try to use the raw forms of vegetables, but on days where I feel like I didn't eat as well as I should have then I add a scoop of this Amazing Grass Green Superfoods to my morning smoothie. I buy the original flavor which is a gross looking and kind of smelly powder, but when you mix it with fruits you can't taste it at all. This already has maca and flax in it, but it also includes acai and alfalfa which are great for digestion and metabolism. This is a perfect option for people who are looking to get vitamins in their diet without having to buy too many different products and without the added fuss.

Fish Oil
Most adults don't get enough Omega-3 in their diets which is what you can get from fish oil. Omega-3s are essential for brain function and can help with ailments ranging from arthritis, cancer, depression, anxiety, to fertility problemsand immune system function. I enjoy the Barleans Fish Oil in the flavor mango peach which, contrary to how the name makes it sound, smells or tastes nothing like fish. It simply has a nice sweet and fruity taste that I like to add to my morning smoothie.

Flax
Flax Seed is rich in fiber so this is something that I use almost daily because of my digestion issues. Flax also is rich in Omega-3s so this is another way to get that into your diet. It is also rich in lignans which can reduce the risk of breast cancer. I like to use it for baking and smoothies and I never notice that it's there. There are also tons of great recipes all over Pinterest for ways to add flax seed to your diet and I highly recommend looking them up because this is also one of those products that I feel most people should be adding to their diets.

Chia Seeds
Chia Seeds are one of the greatest superfoods that we have ever been blessed with. They are packed with nutrients and vitamins and are very low in calories.  These tiny little guys are full of fiber, antioxidants, protein, omega-3s, bone nutrients and can help with issues such as diabetes. You can buy them in their natural seed form or a ground powder version.

Moringa
Moringa Powder contains a huge variety of vitamins including calcium, vitamin C, protein, iron, vitamin A, magnesium, and potassium. Another power packed superfood, moringa also helps with a wide variety of diseases and ailments such as blood pressure issues, depression high cholesterol, diabetes, and can help boost stamina.  I also purchase it in a tea version from time to time which is a great alternative way to add this superfood to your daily routine.

Spearmint
I have already sang so many praises to Spearmint Tea in several posts, but that's only because I truly believe in its usefulness. Gone are the days where I treat upset stomachs with Pepto Bismol or Tums. Spearmint has natural nutrients to aid in digestion and settle nausea and I take full advantage by brewing up some tea at the first signs of tummy upset or heart burn. It works wonders and is delicious! Spearmint is also great for relieving respiratory problems, hormone imbalance, circulation, heart health, stress, and cancer. The best part is how yummy it is!

So we finally reached the end of the super long list so thanks for bearing with me! When I started having major digestion issues I really started to pay attention to what my body was telling me it needed so this is years of research and trial and error in finding what works for me and my body. Everybody is different so it is important to experiment for yourself, but I hope I gave you a few ideas and sold you on the importance on a few of these superfoods that can help you improve your health without having to make too much fuss. My life changed when I started being kinder to my body and paying attention to what I put in it so thanks for tuning in to my journey!

September Reading List

Clearly I'm on a historical fiction kick 😂 So I apologize in advance if that is not your cup of tea because this month that trend continues. I don't know what it is exactly, but transporting back in time has been the perfect escape for me lately.  It could be the beauty of the time from architecture and clothing or maybe just the fanciful ways they spoke, but lately I have been hooked! So on the off chance that you too like this genre then you will be pleased, BUT if you're not then do not fret because I have something for you too! I did mix it up just a little bit so hang tight.

Set during Victorian England, young Sylvia Stafford has learned to stand on her own two feet after the devastating suicide of her father that left her abandoned by all those in high society that she called friends. She creates a new life for herself as a governess to two young children and she comes to be content in her much simpler life until the past comes knocking at her door. Past heartbreak comes in and shatters the happiness she created for herself and leaves her questioning everything about the past that she never fully understood. Why had she given her heart away so easily? Why was her love not returned? All these questions torment and embarrass her, but she could have never imagined the truth. This is a story of heartbreak, underlined with hope, and dotted with regret.

The Future She Left Behind
Every once in a while I stumble upon a book that I don’t want to end and that is exactly what The Future She Left Behind is for me. Marin Thomas created characters that are not only likable, but extremely relatable. From Katelyn and her strained relationships to Sadie who sees the beauty in people, there wasn’t a single character or situation that I don’t want to continue seeing play out.
The story is based around Katelyn and the fallout from her failed marriage. Though still reeling from the unexpected divorce she must learn to navigate and juggle not only her new phase of life, but also all the people who come along with it. She has the typical mother-in-law who points out her every flaw but thinks her son walks on water, an almost non existent relationship with her mother in a small town in Texas, and two 18 year old twins entering college and busy with their own lives. It’s a beautiful story to watch unfold as Katelyn begins to blossom into a person she had forgotten existed and she begins to live rather than just go through the motions. A combination of humor, romance and heartache, The Future She Left Behind is a wonderful book about second chances and faith.

I vote for this to become a series.

12 Days at Bleakly Manor
Just in time for the upcoming holiday season, 12 Days at Bleakly Manor puts a little twist on what we expect from Christmas tales. This story is part Clue and part And Then There Were None with a dash of romance. Michelle Griep created an enjoyable mystery as the 1st part to her Once Upon A Dickens Christmas series that leaves me excited for the next. Set in 1851 the story focuses on young Clara who has lost everything and faces an uncertain future when a mysterious invitation arrives promising her 500 pounds to spend the 12 days of Christmas at Bleakly Manor. With no other prospects or much hope Clara sees no other option than to oblige and see how the 12 days will play out. What awaits for her at Bleakly Manor is certainly not at all what she was expecting when she arrives and finds a group of strangers who were also made promises in exchange for staying the full 12 days. The most unexpected surprise for Clara, however, comes in the form of the very man who jilted her at the alter and left her in her difficult situation she has faced for nearly a year. None of the guests understand why they are there or even who the mysterious host is, but day by day things slowly start to unravel and they begin to learn the truth which nobody expected. 12 Days at Bleakly Manor is a unique and fun little read for the chilly days up ahead.

This is a story about finding strength after tragedy and regaining what you hadn't even realized you had lost in the complicated maze of life. After Nina's husband unexpectedly dies, she is forced to pick up the pieces for herself and her sons. Always the one to rely on her husband to take care of everything, she is faced with the difficult challenge of finding the courage in herself and putting their lives back together. Through the process she must learn to forgive not only her husband, but also herself and together they all begin to heal and settle into their new normal and heal. This book by Amanda Prowse is touching, heartbreaking and at times just so darn frustrating because you want to reach between the pages and lend a helping hand.
