This year my birthday was a little different. Not just because of the pandemic, but also because Ronnie's mom had surgery the day before and would be spending a several weeks recovering. So Ronnie had planned a little mini surprise for me until we celebrate next month.
If you follow along on my Instagram stories you may have seen that when Ronnie plans a surprise for me I beg for some sort of clue to help me decide how to dress. I hate being unprepared and that includes wearing the wrong shoes and being dressed for the wrong occasion. Theres nothing worse than ending up on a hike in heels, right?
So the only clues he was willing to give this time was the temperature and the fact that "there's dirt, but we won't really be walking in dirt". That was absolutely no help. There's dirt everywhere! And if we're not walking in dirt then how is that a clue?! I ended up picking a simple and versatile outfit that could easily be dressed up or down by just switching out my shoes and some accessories and ran out the door. Luckily I did because as you can clearly see we were walking in dirt the entire time! Sneaky!
My love for animals runs deep and fluffy alpacas are some of my favorite. I grew up with goats, llamas, chickens and even emus so it's always just been a natural thing for me. For years I had been wanting to hang out with alpacas and hug their fluffy necks. I know, weird.
So for my birthday Ronnie found a place a few hours away from us where we could do exactly that and let me tell you, it was THE BEST! Capaldi Ranch has not only the cutest and sweetest alpacas, but also a bunch of sassy goats and dogs. I had the most amazing time!
Not only do they offer tours, but they also have 2 AirBNB rental properties so you can stay with the alpacas all day and night. Amazing, right? We'll have to plan a stay for next year because that sounds like such a unique experience.
Did I mention that the views themselves are amazing since they are at the top of a hill?
We got to feed the alpacas and take one on a walk with a leash. They show you how they use the alpaca hair to make yarn and there's a cute little shop full of handmade products with goods from the ranch like goats milk soap and beanies. I picked up a stuffed alpaca made of alpaca hair and it is SO cute!
The goats gave me a lot of love and are truly the cutest little characters. I could have spent all day there hanging out with the animals.
We had breakfast before stopping at the ranch at the cutest little place with outdoor dining called Touch of Paso. Ronnie got the waffles and I got the eggs benedict. Everything was delicious.
We also got cinnamon rolls, my favorite, and apple cider from Cider Creek afterwards before heading back home. They were so so good!
Ronnie did an amazing job planning this little mini birthday surprise. I can't wait until we get to fully celebrate next month!
